FUJIFILM Announces BLU-RAY, HD DVD Media Manufacturing to Begin

Fujifilm USA announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that Fujifilm-branded Blu-ray and HD DVD formatted media would be available for the emerging recording technologies by mid 2006. The company displayed prototypes of the new Fujifilm HD DVD and Blu-ray media at their booth at CES 2006 (Central Hall, N101/102).
The company also restated it's commitment to researching future super-high capacity optical technologies, such as holographic, for delivering multiple terabyte capacity for consumer, entertainment and commercial data storage applications. Fujifilm will continue to leverage the company's core capabilities for these advancements, including:
- Expertise with photosensitive material. In order to store even greater amounts of data in the same space, future optical media will utilize much of the science behind traditional photographic technology
- Dye coating advancements. Optical media records information through a precise combination of dyes, coatings and binder components.
- Thin-film coating precision/advanced polymers. Fujifilm has perfected the process of applying layers of material down to the nano-scale level.
