Today Fujifilm launched the Tape Tracker, a first-of-its-kind, GPS enabled-tool that leverages the brand power of LoJack, famous for tracking the location of stolen cars, to the data storage world. It fits inside a standard tape media case to provide data managers the real-time location and tracking information they need to maximize data security.
“If left unmonitored, back up, disaster recovery and archive data assets can become the Achilles heel to any business or an industry – particularly if the data is sensitive,” said Robert Furtado, CEO, SC-Integrity. “Data assets are well-protected in the data center and within a vault or duplicate operations center – but there has been no way to maintain continual chain of custody in real time. Recent analysis of several "re-certified", used LTO tapes bought on the open market showed that many of the cartridges had not, in fact, been completely erased -- or had wear and damage to the point of unreliable performance or even outright failure.

Fujifilm USA announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that Fujifilm-branded Blu-ray and HD DVD formatted media would be available for the emerging recording technologies by mid 2006. The company displayed prototypes of the new Fujifilm HD DVD and Blu-ray media at their booth at CES 2006 (Central Hall, N101/102).
